A Long History of Winemaking
The history of viticulture in the Drăgășani region is ancient, dating back to before the Roman conquest. Dacia has long been a region rich in grape cultivation, and this tradition runs deep. The Dobrețu Monastery, built in the 15th century, is considered a symbol of viticulture in the region, with vineyards planted on its hills. Furthermore, its quality has been widely recognized, having won medals at the Paris World's Fairs in 1867, 1889, and 1900, and an honorable mention at the International Wine Competition in Bordeaux in 1898.
In 1927, Maria and Iancu Râmniceanu purchased a neo-Romanian style mansion in Drăgășani, surrounded by vineyards. This marked the beginning of AVINCIS's history.
The Origin of AVINCIS Winery
AVINCIS wines are produced at a family-run estate. The brand name "AVINCIS" comes from the owner and his wife's names: V is from the owner's first name, Valeriu, and I is from his wife's name, Irinel. "VIN" represents wine, and the last three letters "CIS" are the initials of his wife's name, Cristiana Irinel Stoica.
