Gitana Winery was established in 1999, based on an old winery that was founded in 1953 and later owned by the Dalguer family. The Dalguer family undertook extensive efforts, including redeveloping the factory, renovating the cellars, installing barrels and oak vats, and of course, planting new grapevines.
The vineyards owned by Gitana Winery belong to the Valul lui Traian viticultural region, and the total area of the winery amounts to 390 ha. Gitana Winery prioritizes the cultivation of local grape varieties and continuously expands its vineyards. Gitana's vineyards are located in an area spanning two villages in the Leova district, divided into three areas. One is in Filipeni village, and the other is in Romanovca village.
In the white wine production process, after destemming and crushing the grapes, the winery uses cryomaceration. The cryomaceration technique allows for the maximum extraction of flavor compounds contained within the grape skins without adversely affecting the quality of the white wine. The resulting must is cooled to 5-8°C for 10 to 24 hours. White wine is aged in stainless steel tanks or 225-liter barrels. Red wine is characterized by its maceration and fermentation process on the must. Fermentation takes place in oak vats, solely by the power of local yeasts, which imparts the necessary tannins, aromas, and pigments.
Wines created from grapes grown by a family that knows the soil inside and out are also popular in the "Autograph Series" and "Portrait Series." In particular, the Autograph wines, made from grapes grown on the best land of Gitana Winery, are a special series with deep and rich flavors that are sure to captivate you.
